A thigh lift can tighten loose or sagging skin on the thighs and restore a smoother, more defined contour. During the procedure, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed and the thighs are reshaped to better suit your body's proportions. The treatment is well suited to you if you have experienced significant weight loss or natural changes in your skin and would like a firmer, more harmonious shape.
At Caolín, every thigh lift is planned individually, based on your skin quality, body shape and wishes for the result. We focus on natural proportions and the most discreet scar possible.
At a glance
A thigh lift, also known as thighplasty, is a surgical procedure in which excess skin and, where relevant, fat is removed from the thighs. Depending on the technique, the incision is placed discreetly in the groin crease, along the inner thigh or around the upper part of the thigh, and the remaining skin is tightened and lifted into a firmer, more defined position.
The placement and visibility of the scar vary with the technique. At Caolín, we place great emphasis on positioning the incision and closing the scar so that it is as discreet and inconspicuous as possible.
A thigh lift is a procedure with permanent results and a real improvement in quality of life for many patients. It is important that your weight is stable before surgery, as further weight loss after the procedure can change the result.
We do not operate on patients with a BMI (Body Mass Index) over 30.
Major weight loss leaves skin that cannot contract, and the inner thighs are particularly affected.
The skin's elasticity decreases with age, and the skin on the inner thighs is not supported by muscle in the same way as elsewhere, which leads to particularly pronounced skin laxity.
Some people are born with loose skin on the inner thighs, regardless of their weight and activity level.
Sagging inner thighs that rub together when walking can cause skin irritation, sores and chronic discomfort – for many, this is just as important a reason as the aesthetic one.
This method is suitable for moderate excess skin, mainly in the upper part of the inner thigh. The incision is placed discreetly in the groin crease, and the skin is lifted and tightened upwards and inwards. Over time, the scar becomes almost invisible – even in underwear and swimwear.
This is the most common variant and is used when there is more pronounced excess skin along the full length of the inner thigh. The incision runs vertically down the inner thigh from the groin towards the knee. This makes it possible to tighten the skin along the entire inner side of the thigh and is necessary where there is significant excess skin, for example after massive weight loss. The technique leaves a lengthwise scar on the inner thigh, which becomes quite discreet over time.
Liposuction of the thighs and knees is often combined with a thigh lift to reduce fat and create a slimmer, smoother and more harmonious contour. The fat that is removed can, if desired, be reused for fat transfer to, for example, the breasts (breast augmentation with your own fat) or the buttocks (BBL).
Almost always combined with the thigh lift for the best result.
A thigh lift is often combined with a tummy tuck and arm lift as part of a complete body contouring plan after massive weight loss.
Many choose to treat their arms and thighs at the same time, as the changes usually have the same cause.
Fat removed from the thighs during liposuction can be reused to shape and lift the buttocks.

Good to know
Here you'll find the whole process step by step — from consultation to your first weeks at home. If there's anything you can't find an answer to, bring it along to your consultation.
Every treatment at Caolín begins with a thorough, no-obligation consultation, where the surgeon assesses your skin, the contour of your thighs and the extent of excess skin and fat deposits. You will then be advised on the technique that gives the best result with the smallest and most discreet scar.
You are welcome to bring someone with you, and there is always a cooling-off period of at least 7 days between the consultation and any surgery.
Liposuction removes fat but does not tighten the skin. In younger patients with good skin elasticity and mainly fat deposits on the thighs, liposuction alone can give a good result. Where the skin is markedly loose and sagging, a thigh lift – possibly combined with liposuction – is the right solution. This is assessed individually at your first consultation.
With a mini thigh lift, the scar sits discreetly in the groin crease and is almost invisible in underwear and swimwear. With a classic thigh lift, the vertical scar down the inner thigh is visible in swimwear but hidden by everyday clothing. At Caolín, scar placement and the best possible suturing are an integral part of the surgical planning.
Scar migration means that the scar gradually moves downwards from the groin crease over time, because gravity and movement put constant strain on it. The correct surgical technique and careful anchoring of the skin to the deeper tissue reduce the risk.
Yes, a thigh lift is often combined with liposuction, a tummy tuck, an arm lift and/or a BBL in patients who have previously experienced massive weight loss, if a complete body contouring plan is desired.
A thigh lift is a safe procedure, but like all surgery it carries risks. The most relevant are bleeding, infection, wound healing problems, scar migration (the scar can move downwards over time) and asymmetry. Scar migration is a particular challenge with thigh lifts, as gravity and movement put constant strain on the incision. Smoking and a high BMI significantly increase the risk of these complications.
Gentle walking is recommended from day 1 and is important for the healing process and for preventing blood clots. More strenuous activity and sport should be avoided for 6–8 weeks. Most people find that they are walking normally and comfortably within 2–3 weeks.
Further weight loss after a thigh lift can change the result and in some cases lead to new excess skin. We recommend that you are close to your desired weight and have had a stable weight for at least 3–6 months before surgery.
Stretch marks located in the area of skin that is removed disappear with the surgery. Stretch marks outside this area are not affected.
Swelling gradually subsides over 3–6 months, and the scar matures over 6–12 months. The final result can be seen after 6–12 months at the earliest, once all the swelling has gone and the scar has fully faded.
Yes, loose skin on the thighs affects men and women equally, especially after major weight loss. At Caolín, the technique and contouring are adapted to masculine proportions.
The process
At the consultation, you and your surgeon go through your wishes, your anatomy and your options. The elasticity of your skin, the quality of the tissue and the proportions of the treatment area are carefully assessed.
Together, you draw up a plan that takes into account aesthetics, healing and realistic expectations.
Before the surgery, you will receive thorough guidance on medication, smoking, supplements and fasting. Good preparation gives you the best conditions for a safe process.
On the day of surgery, you will be welcomed by our team, and the treatment area will be marked before the surgery begins.
The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and typically takes 2–3 hours. Excess skin and tissue are carefully removed, and the skin is adjusted to create a firmer, more harmonious appearance.
The wounds are closed with fine, dissolvable stitches, and a compression garment is applied to support healing.
After the surgery, you will be monitored before you can go home. Swelling, tenderness and tightness are entirely to be expected during the first few weeks.
We recommend rest, light movement and avoiding strain on the area at first. The result develops gradually as your body heals.
Your journey begins with a personal consultation. Here we go through your wishes and options, so that together we can create a treatment plan that feels right for you.
