Renuvion is an advanced treatment used to tighten the skin and improve its firmness without removing excess skin. As a result, it leaves no visible scars at all. The treatment is often used in combination with liposuction to create more defined and harmonious body contours, as the technology specifically addresses the skin laxity that liposuction alone cannot treat.
At Caolín, the treatment is always tailored to you, with a focus on natural proportions, precision and results that support your body shape.
At a glance
Renuvion is a controlled heat treatment of the subcutaneous tissue that produces permanent tightening.
The Renuvion system converts helium gas into plasma using radiofrequency energy. When this plasma is delivered under the skin, a controlled and precise amount of heat is released into the subcutaneous tissue. The temperature is high enough to make the collagen contract immediately and set a long-term regeneration process in motion, but low enough not to damage the surrounding tissue. Renuvion is delivered through a very fine cannula via the same entry points as the liposuction.
What is remarkable about the technology is the combination of immediate and long-term effects: the skin contracts during the procedure itself and continues to tighten over the following 9-12 months as new collagen is formed. In other words, the effect is not static, but continues for a long time after the procedure.
Renuvion is suitable when the skin has a degree of laxity that is too pronounced for liposuction alone to give an optimal result, but not so pronounced that surgical skin excision is necessary. It is typically relevant:
After liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, neck, back or upper arms, where the skin lacks the elasticity needed to adapt to the new contour.
In patients over 40, whose natural skin elasticity is reduced and responds less well to liposuction alone.
For moderate skin laxity on the abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, knees, upper arms or neck, as a supplement or alternative to surgical skin excision.
As a supplement to a mini tummy tuck or other procedures where additional skin tightening in adjacent areas is desirable.
Renuvion is not a substitute for surgical skin excision where there is significant excess skin. If the skin is markedly sagging, a tummy tuck, arm lift or thigh lift remains the right solution. At your consultation, the surgeon will assess whether Renuvion is the right addition for you.
Liposuction and Renuvion are always performed at the same time. Liposuction removes the fat deposits and creates the desired contour, and Renuvion then tightens the skin. The two procedures are performed in the same session through the same entry points.
The result is usually better than liposuction alone, as Renuvion makes the skin firmer and tighter. For many patients, this is the difference between a good and an excellent result, and it is why Renuvion is increasingly an integral part of our liposuction treatments at Caolín.

Good to know
Here you will find the whole process step by step — from consultation to the first weeks at home. If there is anything you cannot find an answer to, bring it up at your consultation.
Morpheus8 and similar radiofrequency treatments work from the surface down into the skin using needles. Renuvion works subcutaneously, beneath the skin, and delivers the energy directly into the layer where the collagen is. This gives a deeper and more intense effect and is particularly well suited in combination with liposuction, as access has already been created through the liposuction entry points.
No. Renuvion is suitable for moderate skin laxity, where the skin lacks the elasticity to keep up with the result of liposuction. For significantly sagging skin, surgical skin excision such as a tummy tuck remains the right solution. At your consultation, the surgeon will assess what is right for you, and we are honest when surgery is the answer.
Technically, yes. Renuvion can be delivered into the subcutaneous layer through its own entry points. In practice, however, it is always combined with liposuction, as the two procedures complement each other naturally and use the same access points.
The treatment is performed under general anaesthetic. Afterwards, there is a warm, tightening sensation in the treated area, which is a normal reaction to the heat treatment. This is managed with standard pain relief and gradually subsides over the first few days.
Some of the skin contraction happens immediately during the procedure. The full effect, including the tightening from newly formed collagen, develops gradually over 9-12 months. It is a cumulative process, and many patients experience continued improvement in the months after the surgery.
Renuvion can be used in the neck and lower face to tighten the skin and help create a sharper jawline. It is not used in the upper areas of the face, as these are better treated with the surgical techniques we use in our facial rejuvenation treatments.
Renuvion (J-Plasma) is FDA-approved in the USA for subdermal use and is clinically documented in a growing body of literature. Safety depends to a large extent on the surgeon's experience with the technology. At Caolín, Renuvion is only performed by surgeons with documented experience and training in the system.
The abdomen, back and upper arms are the areas where Renuvion typically gives the most marked and clinically documented results. The neck also responds well. The degree of improvement depends on the skin's starting point and the patient's biological response to the heat treatment.
Renuvion is primarily combined with liposuction. In a tummy tuck, the skin has already been tightened surgically, and Renuvion adds no significant further effect in the operated area itself. It can, however, be used in adjacent areas, such as the flanks or thighs, that are treated with liposuction in the same session.
Renuvion is typically charged as an add-on to the liposuction procedure. The total price is determined at your consultation.
Recovery is similar to liposuction without Renuvion: tenderness, swelling and discolouration in the first weeks, which gradually subside. A distinctive feeling of tightness and warmth in the treated area is normal for the first few days and is a sign that the collagen is contracting. It is important to have realistic expectations. Renuvion gives noticeably tighter skin, but it is not surgical skin excision. The degree of tightening depends on the skin's starting point and the patient's biological response.
Renuvion is a well-documented and safe technology when used correctly. The most relevant risks are burns, temporary redness and swelling. At Caolín, Renuvion is only performed by surgeons with documented experience with the technology.
Every treatment journey at Caolín starts with a thorough, no-obligation consultation, where the surgeon assesses your skin, your starting point and whether Renuvion is the right addition to your liposuction treatment. You are welcome to bring someone with you, and you can always contact us with questions along the way.
The process
The process starts with a thorough consultation, where you and the surgeon go through your wishes and your options together. The surgeon assesses the quality and elasticity of your skin and the areas you would like treated.
You will also talk about realistic expectations, as the natural quality of your skin affects the final result. It is important to us that you feel well informed and at ease throughout the entire process.
Once the treatment plan is in place, you will receive thorough advice on medication, supplements, smoking and fasting.
On the day of surgery, you will be welcomed by our team, and you will meet the nurse, the anaesthetist and the surgeon. The treatment areas are marked, and the plan is reviewed once more before the surgery begins.
The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and is often combined with liposuction. Through small entry points, the tissue beneath the skin is treated with Renuvion technology, which stimulates contraction and tightening.
The treatment is performed with great precision and tailored to the quality of your skin and the desired result. Finally, the small entry points are closed and the area is protected with compression.
After the surgery, you will be monitored by our staff before you can go home. In the early period, it is normal to experience swelling, tenderness, discolouration and slight unevenness in the treated area.
We recommend rest, gentle movement and wearing a compression garment as instructed by your surgeon. The result develops gradually over the coming months as the skin contracts and the tissue settles.
Your journey begins with a personal consultation. Here we go through your wishes and options, so that together we can create a treatment plan that feels right for you.
