Liposuction is an effective treatment that removes unwanted fat and shapes the body's contours, giving you a more defined and harmonious look. The treatment is well suited to you if you have stubborn fat deposits that do not go away despite changes to your diet and exercise.
At Caolín, we always take your individual body type and your wishes as our starting point. We work with precision and an eye for detail, so the result is symmetrical, smooth and natural contours. We never aim simply to remove as much fat as possible, but rather to create a more harmonious and balanced whole that you can recognise yourself in.
At a glance
Most people are familiar with fat deposits that won't go away no matter how healthily they eat or how much they exercise. The flanks, inner thighs, abdomen, knees, upper arms, back and chin are all places where the body can store fat in well-defined deposits. The size and location of these deposits are often determined by genetics or hormones.
Liposuction is a surgical method for removing these stubborn fat deposits in a targeted and permanent way. It is not a substitute for weight loss, but an effective way to shape and refine the body's proportions where changes to diet and exercise are not enough.
Using fine cannulas inserted through small incisions in the skin, the fat is suctioned out with controlled negative pressure, and the surgeon shapes the treated area by working at different depths and in different directions to ensure a smooth and symmetrical surface.
When localised fat deposits do not respond to changes in diet and exercise, and they bother you aesthetically or disrupt your body's proportions, liposuction can be a solution.
It is important to have realistic expectations of the result. Liposuction shapes and defines, but it does not tighten. Loose skin is not tightened by liposuction – on the contrary, pronounced loose skin after liposuction may require further treatment such as Renuvion. The best results are achieved if you are close to a normal weight before the surgery.
The most commonly treated areas
Including the flanks and the characteristic ‘love handles’.
Inner, outer and front thighs as well as the inner side of the knees.
Upper arms, which can lose firmness and volume on the outer side with age.
Fat that collects where the bra straps sit and in the lower back.
A fat deposit under the chin that gives rise to a double chin.
Liposuction as part of breast reduction in men (gynaecomastia) or as a supplement to surgical breast reduction in women.
More localised deposits that can disrupt the overall contour of the legs.
Liposuction of the flanks and waist is frequently combined with a tummy tuck for a more harmonious contour and a clearly defined waist.
The fat that is removed can be purified and reused to shape and lift the buttocks. A natural combination in which the two procedures enhance each other.
Fat removed by liposuction can be transferred to the face, breasts or buttocks for a more harmonious overall result.
Liposuction can complement these procedures by shaping the sides and creating a more harmonious transition.
Liposuction is a central part of the treatment of pseudogynaecomastia and lipomastia, and is combined with surgical removal of glandular tissue in true gynaecomastia.

Good to know
Here you'll find the whole process step by step — from consultation to your first weeks at home. If there's anything you can't find an answer to, bring it along to your consultation.
No. Liposuction removes localised fat deposits and shapes the body's contour, but it is not a method for general weight loss. You should be close to your ideal weight and have had a stable weight for at least 3–6 months before the procedure to achieve the best and most lasting result.
The fat that is removed does not grow back, as the fat cells have been permanently removed. However, the remaining fat cells in the area can still grow if you gain a significant amount of weight. A stable weight is therefore the most important factor in maintaining the result.
No. Liposuction removes fat but does not tighten the skin. In some cases, loose skin can become more visible after liposuction, as the supporting fatty tissue is removed. If you have loose skin, it is therefore important to consider whether an additional procedure such as Renuvion or a tummy tuck is relevant.
Liposuction is a well-documented and safe procedure, but like all surgery it involves risks. The most relevant are uneven skin contour, asymmetry, haematoma (a collection of blood), infection, temporary changes in skin sensation and, in rare cases, skin necrosis. The risk is reduced by careful patient selection, an experienced surgeon and proper use of compression garments afterwards.
Every treatment at Caolín starts with a thorough, no-obligation consultation, where the surgeon assesses your body type, fat distribution and skin quality and advises you on the best options. We are honest about what liposuction can do for you – and what it cannot.
You are welcome to bring someone with you, and you can always contact us with questions along the way.
It is one of the most widely used and well-documented liposuction techniques and the standard method at Caolín. The treated area is first injected with a saline solution containing adrenaline and local anaesthetic. This reduces bleeding, makes the fat easier to mobilise and reduces discomfort and swelling afterwards. Vibrasat is then used, which gently helps to loosen the fatty tissue by means of small vibrations.
Yes. Fatty tissue removed by liposuction can be purified and reused for fat grafting. At Caolín, it is used for BBL (the buttocks), breast augmentation with your own fat and fat grafting to the face, among other things. It is the body's own natural material and gives an organic and long-lasting result.
It depends on the extent and your general health. There is a limit to how much fat can safely be removed in one session. The limit is typically set at 4 litres of aspirate. Treating many areas at once lengthens the surgery time and increases the strain on the body. The surgeon will advise you on the safest and most effective plan at your consultation.
The swelling subsides gradually over the first few months. Many people see a clear difference after just 4–6 weeks, but the final result, with the skin fully contracted and all swelling gone, is seen after 3–6 months.
Yes. Liposuction is suitable for all genders. In men, the most common treatment areas are the flanks, abdomen, chest (in gynaecomastia) and chin. At Caolín, the treatment is tailored to masculine body proportions and the desired look.
The process
The process starts with a thorough consultation, where you meet your plastic surgeon in calm and reassuring surroundings. Here we take the time to understand your wishes for your body's shape, which areas bother you most, and your expectations of the result.
Together we assess the current fat deposits, the elasticity and quality of your skin, and how much fat can realistically be removed with a beautiful and natural result. We also discuss whether other treatments, such as fat grafting to other areas or skin tightening, may be relevant to achieve the overall result you want. It is important to us that you feel reassured, well informed and met with both expertise and understanding before you make your decision.
Once your treatment plan is in place, we guide you thoroughly through all the preparations leading up to the day of surgery. You will receive information about fasting, medication, dietary supplements and smoking, among other things, as these factors can affect safety, wound healing and the final result.
We also recommend that you prepare for your first days at home in advance, so you can give your body the rest it needs to recover after the surgery. On the day of surgery, you arrive fasting and in comfortable clothing, and our team makes sure you feel reassured and well prepared before the treatment begins.
The surgery is performed under local or general anaesthetic, depending on the extent, and typically takes between one and three hours. Before the surgery, the surgeon goes through the plan with you one last time and marks the areas to be treated.
During the surgery, a special saline solution is first introduced into the tissue, after which the fat is gently removed through very small incisions using thin cannulas. When the surgery is complete, the small incisions are closed, and you are fitted with a supportive bandage or compression garment, which helps the skin contract and supports the final result.
After the surgery, the treated areas will typically be swollen, tender and at times bruised for the first couple of weeks, and it is normal to experience some numbness, which fades over time. Most people can return to light daily activities after a few days, while more physically demanding activity and exercise should wait 4-6 weeks. The final result appears gradually as the swelling subsides and the skin contracts around the new contours, which can take up to six months.
Many choose to combine liposuction with fat grafting, so the fat that is removed is reused elsewhere on the body, for example in the buttocks or breasts. This option is discussed and carefully planned at your consultation.
Your journey begins with a personal consultation. Here we go through your wishes and options, so that together we can create a treatment plan that feels right for you.
