Breast augmentation with your own fat is a natural treatment that can add fullness and improve the shape of the breast using the body's own tissue. The treatment is well suited to you if you want a harmonious result without implants.
At Caolín, breast augmentation with your own fat is one of our preferred methods, particularly in combination with a breast lift, because it gives beautiful results that both look and feel completely natural.
At a glance
In a breast augmentation with your own fat, fatty tissue is moved from unwanted areas of the body to the breasts. There can be many different reasons why women consider a breast augmentation with their own fat. For some, it stems from a wish for larger breasts without having an implant. But it can also be due to a wish for better symmetry and even fullness in the breasts. Some women also find that the fullness of their breasts has disappeared after pregnancy and breastfeeding, and want to restore it without surgically implanted foreign bodies.
The method has become more widespread in recent years as the techniques behind it have been refined. The advantages of using your own fat rather than implants include a more natural result, while at the same time getting rid of fat from unwanted areas of the body. You also avoid the complications that can come with implants, such as capsular contracture or rupture. And the result is long-lasting and does not need to be replaced.
The method is not only used in a cosmetic context, as fat grafting to the breast is also a recognised and gentle technique within reconstructive surgery – for example, to restore volume, soften scar tissue and improve shape and symmetry after breast cancer and mastectomy.
For the method to be used, you need to have enough fat available on your body to harvest from. Very slim patients may have limited options, and this is assessed individually at your consultation.
Breast augmentation with your own fat is not a solution for everyone, but for the right patient it is a superior method. It is particularly well suited to:
If you want a discreet to moderate increase, typically one cup size, lipofilling is ideal. Larger increases often require several treatments or a combination with an implant.
When there is a difference in size or shape between the two breasts, fat can be used to even this out and harmonise it with great precision.
Typically by adding fullness to the upper part of the breast.
If you have unwanted fat deposits you would like removed with liposuction, it makes good sense to use the fat to improve the shape and fullness of your breasts in the same operation.
At Caolín, we often combine a breast lift with fat grafting to achieve the best possible result. The lift provides position and shape, while the fat restores the round, youthful fullness in the upper part of the breast.
For patients who do not want foreign bodies in their body, lipofilling is the natural choice.
First, fat is harvested from one or more donor areas on the body using liposuction. Typical donor areas are the abdomen, flanks, thighs, knees or upper arms. The fat is then carefully cleaned and processed so that only the most viable fat cells are kept. These cells are then injected in small, precise amounts into the breast in many different layers and angles, to ensure even distribution and the best possible integration into the surrounding tissue.
The result is soft and natural, and the breasts feel and move like natural breasts – with no visible scars on the breasts themselves.

Good to know
Here you'll find the whole process step by step — from your consultation to the first weeks at home. If there's anything you can't find an answer to, bring it along to your consultation.
Typically, 50–70% of the transplanted fat survives in the long term. The part that does not integrate is naturally and harmlessly reabsorbed by the body. The surgeon takes this into account by injecting a suitable amount, but in some cases a follow-up treatment will give the best final result.
The fat that survives, on the other hand, is permanent, and the integrated fat cells behave like the body's other fat cells and can therefore be affected by weight fluctuations.
For patients who want a more marked increase than fat grafting alone can provide, a hybrid breast augmentation is an excellent solution. Here, an implant that provides the desired volume is combined with fat grafting, which shapes, softens and creates a more natural look by concealing the edge of the implant, softening the cleavage or adding fullness to the upper part of the breast. The result is markedly more natural than an implant alone.
Breast augmentation with your own fat is generally considered a safe procedure with few serious complications. The most relevant are:
– Fat necrosis: If fat cells do not integrate properly, they can die and form hard lumps (fat necrosis). This is harmless, but can feel uncomfortable and may require follow-up.
– Uneven distribution: Part of the art of lipofilling is precise distribution. In rare cases, the result can become asymmetrical and require correction.
– Limited increase: The method cannot provide the same large increase as implants. It is important to have realistic expectations of the extent of the result.
All risks are discussed thoroughly at your consultation. The most important starting point is an open and honest dialogue about what the method can – and, in particular, cannot – give you.
Every treatment journey at Caolín begins with a thorough, no-obligation consultation, where we listen, assess and advise. We find the solution that gives the most harmonious and natural result for your body – whether that is fat grafting alone, in combination with a breast lift or as part of a hybrid treatment.
You are welcome to bring someone with you, and there is always a cooling-off period of at least seven days between consultation and surgery.
Most patients achieve an increase of one cup size per treatment. A larger increase is possible, but often requires two treatments a few months apart, or a combination with an implant (hybrid breast augmentation).
Yes, the part of the fat that integrates into the breast – typically 50–70% – is permanent. It behaves like the body's other fat cells and will be affected by significant weight fluctuations. The part that does not integrate is harmlessly reabsorbed by the body.
Breast augmentation with your own fat does not affect the glandular tissue or disrupt the milk ducts. Most women can breastfeed normally after the procedure.
In rare cases, fat necrosis can cause calcifications that are visible on a mammogram. This is harmless, but may lead to a follow-up examination. It is therefore important always to tell the radiography staff about any previous breast surgery.
This is assessed individually at your consultation. Very slim patients may have limited options, as there needs to be enough fat available in the donor areas. In such cases, we can discuss alternatives.
Yes, the breast lift repositions and shapes the breast, while the fat restores natural fullness in the upper part of the breast. The result is more harmonious and natural than either procedure on its own.
The donor area is treated like a standard liposuction and will be tender and swollen for the first few weeks. Most patients see it as a positive side effect that an unwanted fat deposit is reduced at the same time. Compression garments are worn on the donor area for 6 weeks.
The process
The process begins with a thorough consultation, where you meet your plastic surgeon in calm, reassuring surroundings. Here we take the time to understand your wishes, your motivation and the thoughts you have about the treatment.
Together we assess the shape of your breasts, your skin quality and your body's proportions to make sure the treatment is right for you. We also assess which areas of your body are best suited for fat harvesting, and you get an honest and realistic overview of what can be achieved. It is important to us that you feel reassured, well informed and met with both expertise and understanding before you make your decision.
Once your treatment plan is in place, we guide you thoroughly through all the preparations leading up to the day of surgery. You will receive detailed information about fasting, medication, supplements and smoking, among other things, as these factors can affect both safety during the surgery and your body's ability to heal afterwards.
We also recommend that you prepare for your first days at home in advance. This might be small practical things such as shopping, planning rest and arranging support from a relative or friend, so that after the surgery you can focus on rest and recovery. On the day of surgery itself, you are welcomed by our team, who make sure you feel well informed, reassured and ready before the treatment begins.
The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and combines liposuction with fat grafting in a single treatment. Before the surgery, the surgeon goes through the plan with you one last time and marks the areas of your body where the fat will be harvested.
First, the fatty tissue is carefully harvested from the selected areas using gentle liposuction. The fat is then carefully cleaned and processed so that only the most viable fat cells are used. Finally, the fat is placed precisely in the breast, layer by layer, to create a soft, natural and harmonious result. The entire surgery is performed with great precision and respect for the body's natural contours, so the result creates not just fullness but also balance. You are under general anaesthetic during the procedure, and our team is with you from the moment you arrive until you are ready to go home.
After the surgery, you are monitored by our staff in calm surroundings until you are ready to go home. During the first 24 hours, it is completely normal to feel tired, groggy or slightly unwell as a result of the anaesthetic, which is why we recommend that you have an adult with you for the first period.
In the days that follow, your body will naturally react with swelling, tenderness and possibly bruising, both in the breasts and in the areas the fat was taken from. This is a natural part of the healing process and will gradually subside.
Your journey begins with a personal consultation. Here we go through your wishes and options, so that together we can create a treatment plan that feels right for you.
