A breast augmentation with implants can create more fullness, improve the shape of the breast and restore balance in the body's proportions. During the procedure, implants are placed either under the pectoral muscle or under the breast gland, depending on your anatomy and the result you want. The treatment is well suited to you if you want more volume, a better shape, or wish to restore fullness to the breast after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss.
At Caolín, we work with respect for the body's natural proportions and focus on results that feel personal, harmonious and natural.
At a glance
There can be many reasons to consider a breast augmentation. For example, a wish to regain volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding, or to improve a naturally smaller breast volume. A breast augmentation can also be relevant if there is a marked difference in size between the breasts, or if you want a more balanced relationship between breast and body after weight loss, for instance.
Both the choice of implant and the surgical approach have a major influence on the result. Implants are available in different shapes and profiles, and we guide you towards the choice that best suits your body and your wishes. At the same time, we assess where the implant is best placed to achieve the most natural and long-lasting result.
Round implants give even fullness in both the upper and lower part of the breast and are well suited to women who want a more “round look”, with a more pronounced curve at the top and a more defined cleavage.
Anatomical (teardrop-shaped) implants mimic the natural shape of the breast, with more fullness in the lower part and a more subtle fullness in the upper part. This suits women who want a more “natural look” with a more understated appearance.
Ergonomic implants are a newer generation: they are round, but because of their softness they mimic teardrop-shaped implants when you are standing. These are well suited to women who also want the breast to feel as natural as possible. Ergonomic implants also make “mini scars” possible.
The profile determines how far the breast projects forward. A low profile gives an understated, natural result. A high profile gives more projection and a visible, defined cleavage. Your surgeon will advise you based on your body type and the look you want.
The size is measured in millilitres and is decided in dialogue with your surgeon, based on the width of your chest and the amount of existing breast tissue. At your consultation you can try different sizes (and shapes) and get a visual impression before you decide.
A breast augmentation is rarely a standard solution. At Caolín, we therefore offer several variants and combinations that can be tailored to your particular starting point:
Either round or teardrop-shaped implants placed over or under the muscle. Surgery under general anaesthetic lasting approximately one hour. The most widely used and best-documented method.
Fat is harvested from one or more other areas of the body, cleaned and injected into the breast. A natural method without a foreign body, well suited to moderate enlargements and correcting asymmetry.
A combination of implant and your own fat. The implants provide volume and projection, while the fat shapes and softens. This makes a tailored result possible that neither method can achieve on its own.
If the breasts have a degree of sagging that cannot be corrected with an implant alone, a lift and an augmentation can advantageously be combined in a single procedure.
Before and after
Motiva Ergonomix mini, 245 ml in the right breast and 230 ml in the left. Placed under the muscle.

Good to know
Here you'll find the whole process step by step — from your consultation to the first weeks at home. If there's anything you can't find an answer to, bring it along to your consultation.
The implant can be placed over or under the pectoral muscle. In most cases, placement under the muscle is recommended, as it gives a more natural transition, better camouflages the edge of the implant and reduces the risk of capsular contracture. For some people, however, there can be advantages to placing the implant over the muscle. This is always assessed and discussed thoroughly at your consultation.
The incision is usually made in the fold beneath the breast as a small, discreet incision of 2.5–4.5 cm, which is naturally concealed in the inframammary fold and becomes almost invisible over time. In some cases, the incision can also be placed around the nipple or in the armpit.
A breast augmentation is a safe and well-documented procedure, but it is still surgery, and surgery always involves a certain amount of risk. The most relevant complications are capsular contracture (a thickened capsule of scar tissue around the implant), bleeding and infection. The risk is generally low and is reduced by experienced surgeons, the right choice of implant and careful care of the scars afterwards. All risks are discussed thoroughly at your consultation, so you make your decision on a fully informed basis.
Every treatment journey at Caolín begins with a no-obligation consultation, where we take the time to listen, assess and advise. We don't believe in standard solutions; we believe that the best result comes from the meeting between the surgeon's craft, your individual anatomy and your personal wishes.
You are welcome to bring someone with you, and you can always contact us with questions while you are considering your options.
Most women can breastfeed normally after a breast augmentation. The surgery does not affect the glandular tissue, and the incision in the inframammary fold is positioned so that the risk of any impact is minimal. If you have specific concerns, we will discuss them at your consultation.
The implants settle gradually and find their natural position over the first few months. The final result is fully visible after 3–6 months, once all the swelling has subsided. Many people, however, notice a clear difference within the first few weeks.
Modern quality implants are very durable and can be expected to last at least 10 years – and often considerably longer. A replacement will probably become relevant at some point, however.
You should expect around 2 weeks of downtime and gradual improvement over the first few months. Most people can return to lighter work after 1–2 weeks.
Yes. Mammograms can still be performed after a breast augmentation, and it is important to continue with regular screening. Always remember to tell the radiography staff about your implants. Women over 40 are also advised to have a mammogram before the surgery.
Capsular contracture is the body's natural reaction to a foreign body – the body forms a thin capsule of scar tissue around the implant. In most cases this is unproblematic. In rare cases, the capsule can become too thick and cause discomfort or change the shape of the breast. The risk depends on the type of implant and its placement.
Yes and no. The size is decided in close dialogue with your surgeon, based on the width of your chest, your existing breast tissue and your wishes. At your consultation you can try different sizes and shapes and get a visual impression before you decide.
Pregnancy is entirely possible after a breast augmentation. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can, however, affect the shape and volume of the breasts – exactly as they would without implants. If you are planning future pregnancies, we recommend discussing the timing with your surgeon.
Yes – this is very common and often advisable. Many people choose to combine a breast augmentation with a breast lift, liposuction or a tummy tuck in a single treatment. That means one general anaesthetic and a more harmonious overall result.
Round implants give even fullness throughout the breast and a defined cleavage. Anatomical (teardrop-shaped) implants mimic the natural shape of the breast, with most fullness in the lower part and a more understated appearance. The right choice depends on your anatomy and the result you want – and is always decided in dialogue with your surgeon.
The process
The process begins with a thorough consultation, where you meet your plastic surgeon in calm, reassuring surroundings. Together we assess the shape of your breasts, the quality of your skin and your body's proportions to find the implant solution that suits you best.
We also go through size, shape, placement and scars, so you get a realistic understanding of both the options and the expected results — before you make your decision.
Once your treatment plan is in place, we guide you thoroughly through all the preparations leading up to the day of surgery. You will receive information about fasting, medication, supplements and smoking, among other things, as these factors can affect both safety during the surgery and your body's ability to heal afterwards.
We also recommend that you prepare for your first days at home in advance, so you have the peace and quiet you need to recover after the surgery.
On the day of surgery, you arrive having fasted and wearing comfortable clothes, and our team makes sure you feel well informed and reassured before the treatment begins. The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and typically takes between one and two hours.
The surgeon goes through the plan with you one last time and marks the area. The implants are placed with great precision before the wounds are carefully closed with dissolvable stitches. Finally, you are fitted with a supportive bra that helps the breasts heal in the desired position.
You are monitored in calm surroundings until you are ready to go home. During the first 24 hours, it is normal to feel tired, to have a feeling of tightness in the breasts or to be slightly affected by the anaesthetic. In the days that follow, the breasts often feel firm and swollen.
Let your body rest, but keep gently active with small movements and short walks. The result then develops gradually over weeks to months, as the swelling subsides and the tissue becomes softer. You are followed closely throughout the whole process, and we are always available if you have questions along the way.
Your journey begins with a personal consultation. Here we go through your wishes and options, so that together we can create a treatment plan that feels right for you.
